Turn Back Time to 2012...
Turn Back Time to 2012 and we were just finishing building our new factory, expanding Midtherm laser by investing £2.3M towards new machinery, jobs and 8000ft of factory and office space.
The space ready for the new factory.
Midtherm Laser was founded 20 years ago and has increased in size ever since, moving to its own premises on Peartree Lane in April 2004. The original factory housed 3 bystronic laser machines and 1 press brake and employed 30 staff members. To keep up with the ever changing trends of laser cutting, investments have to be made in new and up to date technology. In 2012 Midtherm Laser did this by replacing the original Bysprint machine with a new Bystronic 3KW Fiber laser. Its main focus; to cut thinner gauge materials at quicker cutting speeds.
Operations Director, at the time, Dean Cockayne said
“Fiber technology has been available for a while now. As with a new technology advancement, there are always teething problems and glitches that need ironing out. We have purposely waited until these issues have been resolved. The new generation of Bystronic Fiber machines have been proven in the field and I believe that without diverse range of machinery, Midtherm Laser confirms our position as marker leader.”
The additional space allowed room for a new large board room, quality and production offices and extra facilities. The extension to the premises also made room for 2 new Bystronic laser machines increasing the total to five. One of these was specifically designated to cut none ferrous material without cross contamination which is particularly important in some fields of engineering.
There was also an investment in an additional 80T press brake to allow forming of smaller parts such as brackets in high quantity volumes leaving the 250T press for larger thicker components.
The extension was completed in November 2012, since then we have made more investments due to the changing and improving technologies of the laser. We now have 5 lasers including our most recent 10KW fiber - Please read our article on the Our 10KW Fiber Laser & Automated Tower System for more information on this.
