Update: October 2025 – A Year Milestone
We commissioned our Bodor 12 kW fiber laser a year ago, replacing our old CO₂ machine. Over the year, it has helped us keep lead times down and progress toward our energy-saving targets.



We use the Bodor as our ‘overspill’ machine, handling jobs when other lasers are serviced, running at full capacity, or during breakdowns. Our three other lasers, with double beds, handle long production runs more efficiently. The Bodor’s single front-loading bed is ideal for smaller single-sheet jobs, acting as both a flexible option and reliable backup.
When our Bystronic 10kW Fiber was recently out of action, the Bodor kept things moving, cutting the thicker end profiles with ease. Its single bed does mean a bit more downtime for unloading and reloading than our double-bed lasers, but it proved to be a dependable backup.



2024 – Introducing the 12kW Bodor Fiber Laser
At Midtherm Laser, we are constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency and keep pace with the latest advancements in technology. After 17 years of service, our first Bystronic CO2 laser, with its 4m x 2m bed, has now been decommissioned in favor of newer, more efficient fiber technology. We didn’t take the decision lightly, however, the benefits of modern fiber technology were clear.

After careful consideration, we selected the 12kW Bodor machine with a 3000mm x 1500mm bed. This machine represents a significant leap forward in our capabilities. In addition to being more cost-effective, it also allows us to compare cutting quality and performance across different systems. While the Bodor doesn’t have automation, its front-loading bed makes it ideal for smaller, off-cut jobs that would otherwise slow down our larger machines.
A Strategic Upgrade
This new addition will help us streamline operations by handling smaller, more complex jobs that typically tie up our larger machines. The flexibility of front-loading means quick access for smaller tasks. This leaves our automated 10kW and 12kW machines to handle long production runs without interruption.
With automation and storage systems in place, these machines can even run out of hours. This feature maximizes productivity and allows us to meet increasing customer demand more efficiently.


Why Fiber Technology?
The shift to fiber technology is not only important, but also crucial for our future. Tony Dale, our Shift Team Leader, shares his thoughts on why;
“Fiber lasers are super efficient – they use less energy and give us better results. The old CO2 machines cost a lot to maintain and keep running. We shall see how this new laser compares.”
