Dudley “Peace” Monument: A Tribute in Metal
Honouring Remembrance Through Metalwork is something we’re incredibly proud of — and it was a privilege to contribute to the recently unveiled Peace Monument, organised by Rose Cook-Monk.
We laser cut the five-foot “PEACE” letters and 80 soldier silhouettes that now stand proudly in Coronation Gardens, Dudley. The silhouettes include airmen, sailors and women and reflect military personnel of all faiths and ethnicities. Midtherm Powder Coating carefully painted each element before installation. This monument commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and honours the sacrifices of Britain’s Commonwealth veterans.
Visitors are invited to place messages of remembrance inside the “PEACE” letters. These messages will then be carefully sealed in a time capsule and buried beneath a rose bush. Consequently creating a lasting tribute for future generations.
The installation will remain on display until Armistice Day in November. During this time, it will serve as a focal point for several important commemorations, including VE Day, VJ Day, the Battle of Britain, and the end of the Falklands War.
To bring this vision to life, Rose worked closely with our Sales Manager, Steve Macaulay. Together, we laser cut the letters and silhouettes from 3mm S275 steel.

Past Projects: ‘Eric’ the Soldier Silhouette
Rose Monk-Cook is the Poppy Organiser for Dudley and a fundraiser for The Royal British Legion. In 2022, Rose asked us to laser cut a replacement soldier silhouette after there was damage to the original wooden figure.
Rose comes from a military background and her family have raised over £1 million for The Royal British Legion. Rose organises the monuments for the local area. She had taken it upon herself to produce a new memorial in Dudley. Working closely with Sales Manager Steve again, we cut and bent the life-sized soldier. It was then sent it to our sister company, Midtherm Powder Coating, who completed the finishing within just a few days. Two of the directors of the companies then helped to install it in Coronation Gardens, Dudley, on Remembrance Sunday, 2022.
The laser cut soldier, “Eric”, gifted by Midtherm Laser and Midtherm Powder Coating is to remember other anniversaries. This includes the ending of the Falklands War and The Battle Of Britain.
Steve Macaulay helped with the designing of the soldier shared his thoughts.
“As a local company, we were proud to have been involved in this project. We understood the significance of the monument and were only too happy to make the donation so it can be used and appreciated for years to come.”
Other Metalwork Projects
Rose organised the cascade of poppies on Dudley Castle. She has plans for other projects in the Dudley area in the years to come. This includes a permanent poppy sculpture at Coronation Gardens, children’s art competitions and a field of poppies down the high street. She hopes these monuments inspire younger generations to understand the meaning behind the poppy and to help keep alive the memories of those who served.
