Four Years of Our 12kW Fiber Laser

Date

In June 2022, Midtherm Laser took delivery of our Bystronic ByStar Fiber 4020 12kW fiber laser cutting machine. After installation and commissioning in July, it became our third fiber laser and remains an important part of our production today.

The machine replaced one of our older CO₂ lasers, increasing capacity while improving energy efficiency.

Our Largest Laser Cutting Bed

The 12kW laser has a 4000 x 2000mm cutting bed. It is the only laser in our factory able to process sheets of this size.

The larger bed allows us to cut bigger components and make better use of larger sheet sizes where required.

Stainless Steel and Aluminium

We use the machine for cutting stainless steel and aluminium, although it is also capable of processing mild steel and other materials.

Maximum cutting capacities are:

  • Mild steel – 30mm
  • Stainless steel – 30mm
  • Aluminium – 30mm

The 12kW fiber laser cuts thicker materials quickly while maintaining a high-quality finish.

Automated Loading and Unloading

The machine features an automatic loading and unloading system. Although it isn’t connected to one of our tower storage systems, it can process multiple pre-loaded sheets from a single pallet. This helps to reduce downtime between jobs with minimal operator input.

Four Years On

We installed the machine four years ago, and we still use it every day. It remains our only laser with a 4m x 2m cutting bed.
